Exploring and listening with Matthias Kirschnereit

He is searching ‘for the human message’, says Matthias Kirschnereit – because: ‘the composers have encoded so much: pain, yearning, exultation, triviality and despair’. In his new series ‘Kirschnereit’s Piano Cosmos’, the pianist and his audience set about the task of decrypting, and not just through introductions, explications, explanations and musings: in his own playing, too, Kirschnereit gives the audience insights into musical worlds. On two different dates, Matthias Kirschnereit opens the windows to his piano cosmos: the piano recitals of Elisabeth Leonskaja and Sergei Babayan are each framed with a preliminary concert-discussion format and casual conversations with the artists after their respective performance.
