An homage on his date of death

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – a genius, a phenomenon, an immortal savant. A composer whose works are timeless, whose music has something to say to virtually everyone who hears it. Mozart has achieved mythical status. ‘We will never know the truth about Mozart’, wrote Nikolaus Harnoncourt in 2006 on the occasion of the composer’s 250th birthday. Yet it is always rewarding to engage with Mozart. In future, the Alte Oper is taking the date of his death – with 2021 marking the 230th anniversary of this event – as an occasion to honour and discuss Mozart’s work and influence, and therein to seek out new worlds of sound.
