From child prodigy to classical star

From time to time, things are different than they originally seem on the surface. Such as the name "Lang Lang", for example. What initially, at least for us Germans, sounds like repetition of two identical syllables, is, in Chinese, a combination of two completely different symbols - his first name meaning "sunshine" and his surname "educated gentleman". But it is not only Lang Lang's name that is worth looking at and listening to in more detail: For a while now, the Chinese pianist has no longer been able to identify with the role of the highly virtuous keyboard wonder that he was when he started his career at the age of 17. Focussing on this, the Alte Oper shows facets of an artist who has long since found new challenges and his own path.

Please note:
Lang Lang has cancelled his concert tour with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and his piano evenings in spring 2018.
The FOCUS Lang Lang planned for the 2017/18 concert season at the Alte Oper Frankfurt will not take place.

Lang Lang deeply regrets that he must cancel his concert tour of Germany and Asia with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra planned for November 2017, as well as his piano evenings at various German concert venues planned for April 2018. He requires additional time for a tendon inflammation in his left arm to fully heal.
This cancellation also affects the artist’s three planned performances at the Alte Oper Frankfurt as part of ‘FOCUS Lang Lang’:
