Focus on Teodor Currentzis
"The others are eccentric. I am normal."
It is only logical that, in 2016, Teodor Currentzis was named "Conductor of the Year" by critics from the world of opera. The 45-year-old native Greek with Russian citizenship worked hard for the reputation of being different to other conductors. Whatever he seizes becomes a frenzy, a tempest, an impulse. Whether he is chasing through Mozart's "Don Giovanni" on a furious descent into hell or whether he is celebrating Stravinsky's "Le sacre du printemps" as a dark mass or purging Tchaikovsky's violin concerto of catgut strings, the music world is amazed by this man - and the Alte Oper will focus on him for three evenings.
