There are good reasons why, of all the German cities, Frankfurt is most often associated with New York. Both cities are hubs for people, ideas, capital and cultural influences. As international financial centres, they have shaped global developments for decades, as their skylines demonstrate. Openness, contrasts and pace are characteristics that connect the two metropolises.

The four-day festival 'The Met Museum Experience' in March 2027 will build bridges between Frankfurt and New York, as well as between music and visual arts. Max Hollein is the mediator between these worlds. Well known to Frankfurters as the former director of the Städel Museum, the Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung and the Schirn Kunsthalle, he now influences New York's cultural life as director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In close collaboration with Hollein, the Alte Oper has developed a programme that will bring images from the renowned Met Collection to life in Frankfurt, placing them in an immediate musical context.
