La Valse. Poème chorégraphique
In 1965, Martha Argerich won the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, a feat that would not be repeated by any other pianist for many years. Forty-five years later, Yulianna Avdeeva took her place at the piano and continued Argerich's legacy, marking the beginning of her own magnificent career. Now living in Munich, the Russian pianist herself sits on the Warsaw jury, thus following in the footsteps of her great colleague. Avdeeva's qualities combine temperament with calculation and sound culture with structure, all in perfect balance. It comes as no surprise that she lists chess as one of her hobbies. However, with Beethoven's 'Appassionata' and Ravel's intoxicating piano version of 'La Valse' on the programme for her first solo recital at the Alte Oper, her virtuosity also comes to the fore.
