“There is only one or two singers like her in every generation,” said Wynton Marsalis of her. The great Jessye Norman also praised her ‘unique voice, supported by intelligence and consummate musicality, which makes every note she sings shine’. Significantly, Cécile McLorin Salvant receives praise from both the jazz and classical worlds. The 2026/27 jazz artist in residence does not like to be pigeonholed into a single genre. Her artistic foundation is equally rooted in classical singing and jazz. In her projects, she loves to shift between styles and eras. Performing with a large orchestra, as she does in her joint concert with the Rhineland-Palatinate State Philharmonic, gives her the opportunity to demonstrate her incredible stylistic versatility, even with a programme of jazz standards.
