Fontane di Roma
Pini di Roma
Feste Romane
Arias by Cilea, Giordano, Mascagni and Leoncavallo
The people of Berlin can certainly be proud of their city, but Rome is Rome! The Eternal City boasts more beautiful fountains, statelier pine trees and livelier festivals. When the Berliner Philharmoniker travels to Frankfurt in December, its members are probably thinking about Rome, 1,000 kilometres further south. Ottorino Respighi dedicated his 'Roman Trilogy' to the Italian capital: a monumental three-part orchestral poem that Kirill Petrenko describes as 'ravishing'. The programme expands from Respighi’s intoxicating soundscapes of Rome to Italian verismo arias, performed by star tenor Jonathan Tetelman. With his intense, dark-toned voice, the Chilean-American singer will create emotional opera moments, backed by one of the world's best orchestras.
