Prokofiev's Second Violin Concerto, a work full of timbres and technical challenges, is among the pieces on the programme when the London Philharmonia Orchestra accepts the invitation to perform at the Alte Oper. Violinist Alena Baeva will take over the solo part from Hilary Hahn, who had to cancel her participation. Born in Kyrgyzstan and based in Luxembourg, the violinist has performed with internationally renowned orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and made her first appearance at the Alte Oper in 2022 – together with the Frankfurt Opern and Museumsorchester. She has an extensive and rapidly growing active repertoire comprising over fifty violin concertos. Alena Baeva plays the ‘ex-William Kroll’ Guarneri del Gesù from 1738 – generously loaned by an anonymous patron.
