How does an orchestra actually work – and why does it need so many different instruments? In this lecture, we’ll explore the structure of an orchestra, get to know the different families of instruments, and discover why they sound so different. We’ll find out what roles conductors play and why different performances of the same piece of music can sound so different. Through sound experiments, an instrument detective game and a group conducting session, we’ll bring the whole world of the orchestra to life.
