When people in his profession talk about notes, they usually don't mean music: Joachim Nagel has been president of the German Bundesbank since 2022. In this role and as a member of the ECB's Governing Council, he is not only Germany's top currency guardian but also one of the most important figures in global financial policy. Very little is known about the PhD economist - which makes the portrait in the 'My favourite piece' series, which focuses on Nagel's personal musical preferences, all the more exciting. The specific favourite piece that Nagel brings with him is played twice - once at the beginning and again after the discussion section, in which he talks about his relationship to music in general and his favourite piece in particular.
Dr. Lutz Krämer is the second guest this morning. The Frankfurt lawyer requested an excerpt from Keith Jarrett's famous “Köln Concert.” In January 1975, American pianist Keith Jarrett played a concert at the Cologne Opera that made music history. Fifty years later, The Köln Concert is considered one of the most important solo piano works of the 20th century and a milestone in the history of jazz and improvisation.
