Matteo Cimatti in conversation with Dr Markus FeinCatering facilities open
Built in 1769, the Guadagnini violin was generously provided to him and is in good hands. Born in 2000, Italian violinist Matteo Cimatti is currently making a name for himself in the international classical music world. Having completed his studies and honed his skills under the tutelage of Janine Jansen, he has won numerous prizes and awards and is now set to make his debut at major venues and with renowned orchestras. When he makes his first appearance at the Alte Oper in the 2026/27 season, the Italian, who is based in London and Switzerland, will have Schumann's Second Violin Sonata in his repertoire, alongside other works. With its highly virtuosic finale, the piece presents challenges for any performer and also requires considerable skill from the pianist accompanist – in this case, Cimatti's chamber music partner, Francesco Granata. At the premiere, Clara Schumann will be the pianist.
