ROUNDTABLE

Kit Armstrong and Jan Caeyers in conversation with Inge Kloepfer about music and technology

Free admission, entry with ticket for the evening concert

This is a project that transcends dimensions in every respect. Beethoven's creative spirit is being deciphered with the help of artificial intelligence. Conductor and musicologist Jan Caeyers, a renowned Beethoven expert, and pianist Kit Armstrong, a trained mathematician who is active as a researcher and engineer in an AI research group, have joined forces for this large-scale experiment, which has been running for several years. Together, they have developed a novel musical experience that combines scientific and musical expertise with AI, offering a new depth of focus. In their project, 'BeBeethoven', the audience, orchestra, soloist and specially trained AI collaborate in real time to create a collective improvisation based on Beethoven's musical material. The result is unique, like a snapshot of a fantasy. By engaging in the Beethoven AI experience twice, the performers demonstrate the different musical results that can arise when all parameters interact in the concert.
