The conditions of space, time and movement have always been of particular interest to composers as crucial parameters of music. In his 2019 composition Contre-espace, Sasha Blondeau explores the spatial relationships within a sound field by distributing groups of musicians and effectively staging musical 'counter-spaces'. As the title suggests, in ‘Suite Geometrica for 16 Players’, Korean composer Sunghyun Lee deals with geometric concepts that form the basis of fascinating musical forms, patterns and movements. Finally, Wandlungen, one of Emmanuel Nunes's most important ensemble works, will be performed at the concert, where the Ensemble Modern will welcome their long-standing friend, Sylvain Cambreling. The traditional figure of the passacaglia is used as the starting point for musical developments in a further developed form.
