This Christmas season, Papageno Musiktheater is bringing a profound fairy tale to the Mozart Saal: Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen. This production will take audiences not only through snow and ice, but also into the emotional inner worlds of its characters. The devil's mirror strikes Kai in the eye and heart. His heart turns to ice and he sees beauty as ugliness. Even his affection for his girlfriend Gerda fades. The Snow Queen lures Kai into her ice palace with false promises. Only little Gerda's love can now save him. She bravely sets off on her journey, experiencing many adventures along the way. A robber girl, a princess and even a reindeer help her in her search for Kai. However, her most important companion is a crow, who also guides the young audience through the plot, explaining the connections as he goes. The fairy tale's moods are enhanced by music from composers such as Grieg, Brahms, Debussy and Schumann.
