Our new festival for cosmopolitans, urbanites, open minds, night owls, Frankfurt natives, and people from the city's many international communities: Alte Oper Nights brings together musical and geographical worlds over two evenings. The festival's subtitle is “Urban Vibe Festival,” because both evenings take you on a journey through major cities and their sounds. Visitors can put together their own individual program from ten short concerts per evening – and move not only from hall to hall, but also from city to city. The city of Istanbul – a melting pot of cultures – is commemorated with rousing percussion, for example. Flamenco from Seville gets a jazzy twist. The different rhythms and overlapping pulses of New York are brought to life with minimal music by Steve Reich. We also travel to Tokyo, Palermo, Glasgow, Copenhagen, and Lyon.
Parallel to the musical city hopping in the halls of the venue, talk rounds curated by the non-profit Hertie Foundation will take place in the salons, and a continuous light and sound installation will provide exciting sensory stimuli.
After the concerts, visitors can feel the rhythm late into the night in the “club”: pianist Francesco Tristano slips into the role of DJ and plays danceable beats in the Albert Mangelsdorff Foyer.
