“I am rooted in the earth, born on soil steeped in myths and legends. In my homeland, there was a small inn where a gypsy fiddler would always play. It was the first time I had heard a fiddler imitate the sounds of nature so faithfully.” Warmth and intimacy emanate from George Enescu's childhood memories in Romania. Even at the height of his success, the exceptional violinist and composer repeatedly returned to his adopted home of Paris to find peace, bathe in the sounds of his homeland, and recharge his batteries. This is reflected in his Third Violin Sonata, which is so detailed that it cannot be fully appreciated in a single listening. It is therefore perfect for the '2 × hören' series, in which violinist Carolin Widmann and pianist Gabriele Carcano focus on this sonata's incomparable colourfulness, performing and discussing it with artistic director Markus Fein.
