A street goes to a concert

The community project is entering a new round

Music brings people together - which is why the Alte Oper would like to bring the residents of a street in Frankfurt together in a special musical community project. The basic idea: residents of a street who are interested in music, i.e. neighbors beyond their own household, are not only invited to the Alte Oper together, but can also benefit from the concert hall's expertise directly at home and organize concerts for and with their neighborhood themselves. After all, music is ideally suited to strengthening or even creating bonds with other people.

Following the first edition of the project in the 2024/25 season, the Alte Oper is continuing the project: in the 2025/26 season, a committed street community will once again be supported in organising joint musical experiences. Six interested street communities responded to the call for applications in February 2025 and applied to take part. The Rottweiler Straße team from the Gutleutviertel neighbourhood was selected by the jury, which was made up of representatives from the Alte Oper, the Polytechnische Gesellschaft Foundation and the City of Frankfurt.

The jury thus expresses its appreciation for the commitment of a small association that is committed to the residents of its neighbourhood. The Alte Oper and the Polytechnische Gesellschaft Foundation see great potential in the existing structures, the good logistical conditions and, above all, the creative ideas of the team, which they would like to support. The project will kick off on 14 September 2025, when the residents of the street will be invited to the Alte Oper for the opening of the season with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra.

Rottweiler Straße

Rottweiler Straße (or Rottweiler Platz) is located in the eastern part of the Gutleutviertel neighbourhood. It is home to a lively and diverse neighbourhood that has already built up experience in neighbourhood involvement with the Gude Leut e.V. association. Rottweiler Platz is used as a central social hub and is also set to become the centrepiece of ‘Eine Straße geht ins Konzert 2025/26’.

The project is free of charge for you. You contribute your willingness to get actively involved and the Alte Oper bears the project costs, such as the fees for musicians performing in your area and the cost of tickets for your concert visits. The Alte Oper will also provide you with an experienced project manager.

Looking back: The team from the very beginning - ‘Wolfsweide and friends’

In the first edition of the project in the current 2024/25 season, the ‘Wolfsweide and friends’ team came out on top among the applicants. The core team of residents from the street ‘An der Wolfsweide’ in Preungesheim came up with a comprehensive concept that embedded the musical experience in an overall experience for all the senses.

Among other things, the residents realised a musical Advent calendar contribution with the support of the Alte Oper, a culinary-musical evening with jazz pianist Omer Klein, a walking concert as a ‘musical stroll through the estate’, an evening with a silent film on the wall of the house and live music as well as a large street party. Regular concert visits to the Alte Oper were an integral part of the project, and the activities were also accompanied by a podcast project by the street community.
