No Christmas without a Christmas oratorio. Many music lovers feel the same way. ‘Jauchzet, frohlocket‘, “Ehre sei dir, Gott, gesungen” and “Ich steh” an deiner Krippen hier’ - even then, Bach struck a joyful, timeless note. A festive mood, magnificent arias here and quiet reflection on the Christmas mystery there, structured and reinforced by the popular chorale verses. The evangelist's performance preserves the classical translation of the biblical text in the powerful language of Martin Luther throughout the ages.
