Concert introduction by Christian Kabitz at 19:15
Works by Tallis, J. S. Bach, Reger, Britten and others
After Silence - what music can be heard when everything has fallen silent? This almost philosophical question is posed by the programme of VOCES 8, perhaps the best vocal ensemble in the world at the moment. Be careful with such superlatives - don't we have the Calmus Ensemble and Singer Pur here? Not to mention all those English and American groups like the King Singers or the Hilliard Ensemble?
No, since its foundation in 2005, VOCES 8 has not only consistently performed at the highest level and with an extremely wide-ranging repertoire in concert and in the new media, but has also opened up completely new ways of communicating music. A separate foundation organises workshops and summer courses for children and there is constant collaboration with school choirs.
Their concert programmes always follow an intelligently conceived common thread, in which a Miserere by Tallis can stand next to a Beatles arrangement, a deeply romantic Nachtlied by Reger next to a brand new world premiere; the meaning of this combination arises from the musical conviction and vocal quality of the eight exceptional artists. You can look forward to VOCES 8 - after silence!
