The Philharmonie Hamburg was founded in 2003 by professional freelance musicians from around the globe. Since then, the orchestra has earned and maintained a leading position in the North German music scene. The orchestra sees itself as dynamic, able to expand from smaller chamber ensembles to a large symphony orchestra with choir. However, at its core, the orchestra has always remained a chamber orchestra, which has changed little since its foundation and is highly rehearsed.
Having made numerous guest appearances in Spain, France, Italy and South Korea, the orchestra has gained a large circle of friends among its listeners. The orchestra's musical director is its concertmaster, Tigran Mikaelyan.
