Highlights from operas by Richard Wagner and Giuseppe Verdi

Verdi and Wagner are the two most important composers of the 19th century in the world of opera. They managed to lead this art form to a new heyday with two completely different approaches. Verdi's realistic humanism and Wagner's romantic mythology revolutionised opera. Two geniuses who could not have been more different each created a multitude of masterpieces that fascinated people, but at the same time polarised them. Regardless of this, both musical giants are at the top of the popularity scale for many opera lovers.

The gala concert at the Alte Oper promises a fireworks display of the most popular opera melodies from both genres.

The diverse programme will be performed by outstanding vocal soloists: star soprano Elena Moşuc (Arena di Verona), soprano Malak Shafei (Cairo Opera House), soprano Diana Orlanova (Gewandhaus zu Leipzig), mezzo-soprano Deniz Yetim (Meiningen State Theatre), tenor José de Eҁa (Opera Holland Park Theatre London), tenor Simon Kyung Lee (Kansas City Puccini Festival) and tenor Sungmin Song (Mannheim National Theatre), baritone Hongyu Chen (Bayreuth Festival), bass Jacoub Eisa (Deutsche Oper Berlin) and bass David Hong (Frankfurt Opera). They will be joined by Elena Patsalidou, Julie Wyma, Claudia Grundmann, Lucy Williams, Angela Kunz and Eva Priska Hartmann as Valkyries. The Thuringia Philharmonic Orchestra Gotha-Eisenach will perform under the baton of Hans Friedrich Härle and Rhodri Britton. The International Choir Frankfurt will also enrich the ensemble.

The presentation of the two famous masters in a Verdi-Wagner opera gala offers the audience a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the musical diversity of these brilliant composers in one evening and to experience their different characteristics. Both Verdi and Wagner fans should therefore not miss the gala concert at the Alte Oper.
