Programme
The Kanneh-Mason family is something very special: all seven children in the British family are trained musicians or are well on their way to becoming one. The third eldest offspring, cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, rose to fame with his performance at the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018, which was watched by around two billion television viewers. Since then, he has performed in renowned concert halls around the world. The young cellist made his debut at Pro Arte Frankfurt in 2022 with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. He now returns to the podium of the Alte Oper alongside the Camerata Salzburg with Shostakovich's famous First Cello Concerto and - in keeping with our focus on Ravel this year - with Ravel's ‘Kaddish’ from his Deux mélodies hébraïques, originally written for voice and piano and based on a Jewish prayer. Other works, such as Ravel's orchestral suite ‘Le Tombeau de Couperin’, which is based on French dance forms, round off the exciting programme.
