From the West End to global phenomenon! MAMMA MIA! is Judy Craymer's brilliant reimagining of ABBA's timeless songs, woven into a light-hearted and humorous tale of a mother, a daughter, and three possible fathers on a picturesque Greek island.
Celebrating over 25 years since its London premiere in April 1999, the performances have been a huge success. To this day, it remains the third longest-running musical in the West End, having been seen by over 11 million people. It has been seen by over 70 million people across 50 productions in 16 different languages. In 2011, it became the first Western musical to be performed in Mandarin in the People's Republic of China. It went on to become the eighth longest-running show in Broadway history, where it ran for a record-breaking 14 years.
Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus wrote the music and lyrics for MAMMA MIA!. Catherine Johnson wrote the script, Phyllida Lloyd directed it, and Anthony Van Laast did the choreography. Mark Thompson conceived the production, Howard Harrison designed the lighting, Andrew Bruce and Bobby Aitken designed the sound, and Martin Koch provided the musical direction, additional material and arrangements.
