If the solo flute in an orchestra played something other than what was written in the score, they would certainly get into trouble with the conductor. Conversely, if a jazz musician were to play only what was written in the score, they would disappoint the audience. Improvisation is the art of creating music as you play. It is a hallmark of jazz, and in this concert, we will demonstrate how it works.
To help us demonstrate this, we have invited a jazz trio who have mastered all styles of jazz, including Dixie, rock ’n’ roll and blues, with drums, bass and piano. They will also demonstrate how well-known classical melodies can start to groove. We urgently need brave young musicians to join in!
