In what ways does music shape the experience of computer games? The 'Let's Play' format addresses this question by combining gaming culture with the concert experience in an unusual way. On a large screen, the audience watches a gamer play a computer game while enjoying live music performed by the Mahler Chamber Orchestra as well as live sound effects created by a sound artist.
This concept reimagines the “Let’s Play” format familiar from the gaming scene for the concert hall. The focus is on the role of music in computer games in terms of atmosphere, tension and plot, and on the flexibility with which an orchestra can respond to these processes. This hosted concert is the first in a trilogy and will also be streamed online over three evenings. The “Let’s Play” concerts, which feature interlinked content, will be broadcast from the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Nikolaisaal Potsdam and the Alte Oper Frankfurt on the gaming platform “Twitch”.
