Programme
Following its triumphant victories at string quartet competitions in London, Bordeaux and Reggio Emilia, the Leonkoro Quartet has been regarded as one of Germany's leading young quartets, in demand worldwide for its chamber music performances. The quartet made its debut at the museum concerts at an early stage, even before its competition successes, and is now finally returning to our chamber music series three years later.
The programme features three major works from the string quartet repertoire: Haydn’s Fifth ‘Erdödy Quartet’, which features arguably the composer's most poignant slow movement, the ‘Largo, cantabile e mesto’ in F-sharp major; Benjamin Britten’s Second String Quartet, inspired by Purcell's music; and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s moving Quartet in F minor, composed in the aftermath of his sister Fanny's death.
