With “Home Alone”, director Chris Columbus created a film in 1990 that continues to delight generations to this day. For many, the film centred on Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) is an integral part of the winter and Christmas season – not least thanks to the two crooks, Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern), who are as chaotic as they are unforgettable. The cult film is now being transformed into a special live experience with “Home Alone: Live in Concert”, which will go on tour in Germany for the first time this December. Whilst the film is shown in full on the big screen, the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen will perform the film’s score in sync with the action. Together with the University of Cologne Choir, they create a soundscape that conveys the emotions of the story directly to the audience – at times warm and touching, at others thrilling and full of energy. John Williams’ music is far more than mere accompaniment: it lends the action its splendour, amplifies both the grand and the quiet moments, and, when played live, creates a genuine goose-bump-inducing experience. This allows the well-known film to be experienced anew – more intensely, more intimately and more impressively than ever before. On 7 December 2026, the Alte Oper Frankfurt will be transformed into a place full of winter magic, deep emotions and unforgettable moments.
