‘A kind of foundation of our existence.’ Yefim Bronfman reaches high for a description of what Beethoven's piano concertos mean to him. Since his childhood, he says, not a day goes by without him being in contact with Beethoven and his revolutionary art. But: ‘The more I play Beethoven, the more questions I have. It's something that grows inside you.’ The encounter between Bronfman and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra is like a home game. The traditional orchestra has been a permanent fixture in the Israeli-American pianist's international career from the very beginning. So it will be a familiar give and take when Bronfman performs Beethoven's Fifth Piano Concerto with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of its chief conductor Lahav Shani.
