The reunion many have been waiting for: Iris Berben and Anke Engelke are returning to Frankfurt’s Alte Oper! Their acclaimed show “Komisch! – Iris Berben meets Anke Engelke” already had a home game here in November 2025 – the show was completely sold out well in advance. Now this unique stage duo is giving the Frankfurt audience a second chance.
What is funny? Is funny the same as amusing? Or does funny mean strange? The Duden dictionary offers the following definitions: having an amusing effect due to peculiar traits, provoking laughter AND: strange, odd; not in line with someone’s ideas or expectations. Amusing or strange? We’ve known it for ages. You laugh or you wonder. But who laughs at which point? And who shakes their head in wonder? Iris Berben and Anke Engelke love the comic – and spend an evening reading through the finest examples: from Werner Finck to Voltaire and from Favell Lee Mortimer to Friederike Kempner and many more.
It’s sure to be a funny evening. But: what exactly is funny? The Frankfurt audience can look forward to a closer examination of this question – by Iris Berben and Anke Engelke, based on a concept by Thomas Lienenlüke.
