In April 2027, Frankfurt will host a very special home performance: Hans Zimmer’s breathtaking film score for Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning science-fiction epic “IInterstellar” will be performed live in Germany for the first time at the Alte Oper Frankfurt. Whilst the film is shown on the big screen, the Philharmonie Baden-Baden will perform the iconic soundtrack live in a symphonic arrangement. The distinctive organ part will be performed by Roger Sayer, who played a key role in shaping the original recording of the acclaimed film score – a detail that lends the Frankfurt concert a special sense of authenticity.
Hans Zimmer’s Oscar-nominated score for “Interstellar”, which the composer himself has described as the finest work of his career to date, already has an overwhelming impact in the film itself. In this concert performance with Roger Sayer and the Philharmonie Baden-Baden, conducted by Martin Gellner, it gains an additional sense of spatial and physical presence – and the Alte Oper Frankfurt, with its acoustics, provides the perfect setting for this. The audience does not merely hear the music, but experiences it with all their senses: low frequencies can be physically felt, the organ’s vast soundscapes unfold directly within the hall, and the dynamics of the large ensemble create a sense of vastness, grandeur and sublimity.
