When Hubert von Goisern goes on tour again in 2027, three years will have passed since he last performed in front of a live audience. He has never been idle during this time, however. As part of the 2024 Capital of Culture, Goisern spent an entire summer on the streets – giving spontaneous, last-minute concerts with a changing line-up of guests and performers. Musical encounters that defied all planning. The street fostered a sense of closeness and opened up a new artistic freedom. “I was never away. I was out there, on the street, playing – with whoever happened to be around. I invited people; whoever had time joined in. Learning to cope with constantly changing situations was both a challenge and an enrichment. We played around 50 concerts. It wasn’t a holiday – it was better than a holiday.” Much of what emerged in 2024 will continue to have an impact – not as a concept, but as an attitude. Hubert von Goisern has always been an artist who defied expectations. His music moves between tradition and innovation, between quiet moments and radical breaks. His style was never static – but always in flux. “Actually, I’m usually someone who prepares meticulously for everything. But this was about experimenting, about letting myself be surprised. For me, the appeal lies in the interplay, in connecting things that might not even belong together. I’ve never repeated myself – why should I start now?” The new tour will start exactly there: not as a reproduction of existing programmes, but as an open musical field in which things are allowed to develop. Loud and soft – also as different musical approaches that will run through the tour.
