Andrés Orozco-Estrada, the »father« of this popular lecture-concert series is finally returning to Frankfurt after a long absence to charm the ever-entertained audience with fascinating insights into Tchaikovsky and his impressive 5th Symphony. This work, with its rich abundance of melody, brilliantly forthright sentimentality, distinctive imagery and orchestral intensity, is underpinned by programmatic ideas which, whilst not known in detail, are likely to be autobiographically inspired. The former Music Director of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony explains and illustrates the significance of the “fate motif”, which serves as a kind of motto at the beginning of the work and runs like a thread through all four movements of Tchaikovsky’s “Fifth” – to anyone wishing to delve deeper into the fascinating world of classical music, if only for an evening.
