Concert Introduction

His most famous work opens the season, which marks the 200th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven's death. The first notes: nothing less than the signature tune of classical music! This is complemented by a violin concerto that also occupies a top position – namely in terms of virtuosity.

For hardly anyone demands more bravura and dexterity from the soloist than Henryk Wieniawski in his F-sharp minor concerto. „Wieniawski's Violin Concerto No. 1 is one of the most technically challenging concertos, along with the Paganini Concertos,“ Julia Fischer confirms. „In fact, I have never played this Concerto before, so it will be a premiere with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony – which I am very much looking forward to.“ Esteban Benzecry refers to Beethoven, and specifically his Fifth Symphony, with „Latinthoven V“ In it, „certain unmistakably Beethovenian motifs reappear“, says the Lisbon-born Argentine-French composer about his latest orchestral work, „transformed and transposed into a different soundscape: a lush, rhythmic tropical jungle, as if Beethoven himself were taking an imaginary journey through America.“ (hr-Sinfonieorchester)
