Concert introduction
Magic and enchantment. The Jussen brothers on two pianos know how to play with youthful charm - just like Maurice Ravel, the composer with the distinctly childlike soul. He composes an eerily beautiful ‘Fantaisie lyrique’ as well as fine fairy-tale pieces about Mother Goose. Ravel, the great French composer with the 150-year anniversary, loved to immerse himself in children's themes - just think of ‘Ma mère l'oye’, the timelessly beautiful fairytale piece about Mother Goose. His opera miniature ‘L'enfant et les sortilèges’, which premiered exactly 100 years ago, is far less well-known, but no less sparkling with esprit. In it, a child rebels against its strict mother, goes on the rampage - and suddenly finds itself threatened by all the animals and things it has tormented and destroyed. It sounds funny, but also eerie, bizarre and touchingly poetic. An eight-part soloist ensemble, children's choir and the hr-Sinfonieorchester with numerous effect instruments and chief conductor Alain Altinoglu ensure that a realm of sound of enormous magic is created here, a magical world in which the imagination has unlimited power.
