Concert introduction at 18:00
A program entirely in the spirit of the great American, whose music always has its own unique nonchalance. In addition, the sound of the hr-Bigband, which performs here quite naturally with the hr-Sinfonieorchester - two worlds of sound united for Gershwin, but also for a world premiere by the French composer Thierry Escaich. George Gershwin himself had the horns of Parisian cabs in his luggage when he returned to the USA after his studies in Paris in the 1920s - and the score he had begun for a work in which life in the French capital is acoustically illustrated with precisely these horns and a few other effect instruments. Gershwin's music was always on the pulse of the times, which were turbulent - and which he brought to life with all his coolness. He is probably best known for his “Rhapsody in Blue”, in which jazz finds its way into the format of a piano concerto. And what could be cooler than the chief conductor himself casually sitting down at the keys as if nothing were wrong.
