Works by Chopin, Sumino, Saint-Saëns, Adès and Stravinsky
‘Chopin has always been an idol to me, and his music has been very close to my heart since childhood. As I developed as a musician, I realised how naturally his influence flowed into my own compositions.’ With this statement, Japanese pianist Hayato Sumino shows how strongly the music of Polish-French composer Frédéric Chopin has influenced him artistically. It is precisely through his interpretations of Chopin that he has made a name for himself internationally – not least as a semi-finalist in the renowned 2021 Chopin Piano Competition. Since then, he has been performing on the most important concert stages, exploring the connection between past and present in his own inimitable way. This is also the case on his album ‘Chopin Orbit’, released in January 2026, on which he relates works by the Polish-French composer to his own compositions and pieces by other composers. He is now presenting parts of it on the big stage of the Alte Oper, bringing his own fascinating Chopin cosmos to life for the Frankfurt audience in this solo recital.
