Concert introduction by Christian Kabitz

Admission exclusively for members and subscribers of the Frankfurter Bachkonzerte e. V., for subscribers to the Bach Series and for FRIENDS of the Alte Oper

The programme features multi-choir works and sacred concerts by Praetorius and Monteverdi, as well as pieces by Schütz, Scheidt, Gabrieli, Cavalli and others.

A musical frenzy of echoes, space and voices. ‘Vertigo’ is the title of the new project by the French ensemble Pygmalion, which is conducted by its founder, Raphaël Pichon. Structured like grand ecumenical vespers, this programme brings together the greatest German and Italian masters of church music: Praetorius, Schütz, Scheidt and Monteverdi. They respond to each other through echoes, antiphonal singing and spatial effects, turning the polyphony into a jubilant, sensual and exuberant song. It is a celebration of the stylistic fusion that once shaped European music. It is a harmonious fusion of opulence and vocal excellence, an epoch-making dialogue between Italy and Germany, between Mediterranean lightness and Nordic depth.
