KIENZLE’S CLASSIC
Between Frankfurt and Amsterdam: Mahler, Willem Mengelberg and the Concertgebouw OrchestraA music seminar for the curious with Dr Ulrike Kienzle
Free admission, entry with ticket for the evening concert
"It always felt right with Amsterdam, where I will be chief conductor from 2027. But we didn't rush into it.” Nevertheless, it will be a dream wedding when one of the most sought-after conductors of our time marries one of the world's best orchestras next year. The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam will thus be able to retain the services of the Finnish rising star who has been causing a stir in the music world for some time now, not least because Klaus Mäkelä only turned thirty at the beginning of the year. However, Amsterdam's excellent ensemble and its future conductor prove that masterful orchestral control is not a question of age or numbers with their performance of Mahler's Seventh Symphony, which is immensely grand and colourful and features instruments as diverse as the guitar, mandolin and cowbells.
