Two bands, one musical heritage: when Nicky Márquez y Son a 3 and Ecos de Siboney join forces, they create a platform for Cuban music in Frankfurt. The Frankfurt-based group, led by the charismatic singer Nicky Márquez, fuses traditional son sounds with a vibrant energy. They are joined by Lazara "Cachao" Lopez, the daughter of the legendary bassist Orlando "Cachaíto" Lopez and a founding member of the Buena Vista Social Club.
As guests, Ecos de Siboney will bring their interpretation of son cubano to the 'Stage of Diversity'. This Cuban group is also a successor to the famous Buena Vista Social Club, with three of Compay Segundo's grandsons at its heart. Compay Segundo became famous at the age of 90 thanks to Wim Wenders' film. The ensemble is considered the musical successor to the Havana icons – and is developing their style in a contemporary way.
