Brad Mehldau is widely regarded as one of the most important figures in contemporary jazz piano. The American pianist gained international recognition both as a bandleader and through his collaborations with renowned artists such as Pat Metheny, Renée Fleming and Joshua Redman. His programmes, which are lyrical and intimate yet always free and experimental, range from reinterpretations of songs by artists such as The Beatles, Radiohead and Gershwin, to creative explorations of classical Romantic works by composers such as Gabriel Fauré, and an ever-growing catalogue of his own compositions. Having already performed three times at the Alte Oper with his trio, he is now giving his first solo recital here, showcasing his artistry in its most concentrated and personal form.
