Performers
New Orleans could be anywhere. Take, for example, Frankfurt, where the Barrelhouse Jazzband was founded in 1953. In 1968, the entire band was awarded honorary citizenship of New Orleans, and they remain among the most renowned traditional jazz artists to this day. Saxophonist Frank Selten has been a member of the Barrelhouse Jazzband since 1961 and is still with the band, but the younger members have also blended in perfectly with the band's sound. New Orleans jazz is also cultivated in France by ensembles such as the Paris Swing Connection, featuring saxophonist Olivier Franc, his son Jean-Baptiste Franc on piano, and trombonist Benoît de Flamesnil. So a Franco-German encounter in the name of New Orleans jazz is on the cards when the Barrelhouse Jazzband invites its French colleagues to a joint session in Mozart Hall in spring 2027.
