Distant galaxies, star nebulae, black holes – the universe closer than ever before! On a giant screen, razor-sharp NASA images shine in colours usually seen only in science fiction films. Accompanying this, Mona Asuka, one of the most outstanding pianists of her generation, performs the music of Johann Sebastian Bach live – at times powerful, at times delicate, always surprising. The result: a concert that feels like a journey through space and time.

Even the very first performances in Munich demonstrated just how much the concept has captivated audiences: “A transcendent Bach,” wrote the Münchner Merkur. And the ‘Kultur in München’ website reported: “The Munich audience is visibly captivated during the performance – by the vastness and depth of the crystal-clear, high-resolution images, by the finely curated selection from Bach’s repertoire, and by the precise execution.”
In May 2027, ‘Bach in Space’ will come to the Alte Oper Frankfurt for the first time. The programme features highlights such as excerpts from the ‘Well-Tempered Clavier’, the ‘Goldberg Variations’ and the ‘Italian Concerto’. Great classics – experienced anew, in a setting guaranteed to give you goosebumps.
