Streichquartett f-Moll op. 95 "Quartetto serioso"
Streichquartett cis-Moll op. 131
There is a long-standing tradition of Beethoven string quartet cycles at the chamber music concerts organised by the Museums-Gesellschaft and at Frankfurt’s Alte Oper. The Alban Berg Quartet was the first to perform a series of six concerts here, followed by the Artemis Quartet and, in the Beethoven Year of 2020, the Quatuor Ébène. However, parts of the latter's cycle were cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The next Beethoven Year is now just around the corner; March will mark the 200th anniversary of the composer’s death. The Aris Quartet, based in Frankfurt, has long been closely associated with the Museums-Gesellschaft's concerts. Having matured into one of the most acclaimed string quartets, the group is taking this anniversary year as an opportunity to embark once more on a journey to the pinnacle of quartet art.
As usual, the cycle is divided into six concerts, all of which will be part of the Museums-Gesellschaft’s major chamber music subscription series – three in the 2026/27 season and three in the 2027/28 season. The series will begin with a concert on 21 January.
