The Alte Oper is looking for voices! Enthusiastenchor' is the name of our participatory format, to which we are calling all committed amateur singers from soprano to bass. With professional support, you will work on a major choral work which, after rehearsals, you will perform together on the stage of the 'Grosser Saal'. 

ENTHUSIASTENCHOR 2026 - Brahms: A German Requiem (16 MAY 2026)

A joint participatory project by the Alte Oper Frankfurt and the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main

‘I will comfort you as a mother comforts": Johannes Brahms' Requiem in German touches the heart - because it focuses on the bereaved and not on the deceased and their salvation. Brahms himself called his unusual and not at all liturgically bound contribution to the genre ‘funeral music as a beatitude for those who suffer’ and thus created one of his most popular works. The Alte Oper gives amateur singers the opportunity to rehearse this work in the specially formed Enthusiastenchor and perform it together on the stage of the Great Hall - supported by the choir and orchestra of the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst.

Rehearsal weekend 1:
Friday, 13 March 2026: 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Saturday, 14 March 2026: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sunday, 15 March 2026: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Rehearsal weekend 2:
Friday, 24 April 2026: 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. (E* choir plus university choir)
Saturday, 25 April 2026: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (E* choir plus university choir)
Sunday, 26 April 2026: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (E* choir plus university choir)

Final rehearsals and concert:
Thursday, 14 May 2026 (Ascension Day): 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (E* choir plus university choir)
Friday, 15 May 2026: 4 to 7 p.m. tutti rehearsal, 8 to 10 p.m. dress rehearsal
Saturday, 16 May 2026: 4 to 5.30 p.m. rehearsal, 7 p.m. concert
