Lively blossoming and growth
The judgement of music critic Eduard Hanslick had a great influence on the music world at the time. He wrote about Johannes Brahms' Second Piano Concerto that the musical idea of the work would develop “an unimagined richness, not according to the dry recipes of a scholastic art, but in lively blossoming and growth”. It is good for Brahms that this emotionally gripping, densely woven work with its many facets was able to secure its place in the world of classical music - and that we are able to experience it this evening in the sensitive interpretation of star pianist Khatia Buniatishvili and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande under Jonathan Nott's direction. The concert at the Alte Oper will be accompanied by Claude Debussy's ‘Images pour Orchestre’, whose three parts are inspired by musical forms and traditions from England, Spain and France and take the audience on a journey through the musical culture of these three countries.
