“The 250th birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven in 2020 offers outstanding cultural opportunities for Germany at home and abroad”, according to the coalition agreement of the German federal government from 2013, which went so far as to declare the festivities surrounding this milestone birthday a national duty. For the Alte Oper, it goes without saying that this anniversary will be an occasion for special programming: The German Chamber Philharmonic Bremen and Paavo Järvi will perform all nine of Beethoven’s symphonies on four evenings.
