Jazz in the Mozart Saal (Mozart Hall)

In contemporary improvised music, the trio is a place of optimal freedom, of individuality realized to the full. It requires the highest possible standards from each of the three musicians in terms of playing intelligence and stage presence and does not give anyone any opportunity to hide. Each musician bears the same responsibility. In an all-encompassing way, each musician is both committed to and involved in the group sound. In particular, the role of the drummer now appears in a different light from that of the earlier jazz tradition. In this season’s “Jazz in the Mozart Hall” series, you can experience four trios, each of which has enabled its members to work together in the same context for several decades. A great deal of these trios’ work revolves around the extremely varied and sound-intensive work of their respective drummers.
