Focus on Gustavo Dudamel
“Even wild extravagance requires precision.”
Gustavo Dudamel’s exuberant temperament extends to the very tips of his fingers. Although he passed the age of thirty a long time ago, he still aims to be the youngest: on January 1, 2017, he was the youngest conductor to conduct the Vienna Philharmonic for its New Year’s Concert – or, as Dudamel would put it, the youngest to be allowed to conduct it. He has been one of the leading conductors of our era for a long time and has worked with all the world’s best orchestras. Yet, he is down-to-earth. On three dates, the Alte Oper will focus on Gustavo Dudamel and his takes on Mahler, Schubert, and Brahms, as well as the passionate way in which he makes music.
