Frequently asked questions
Where can I find the programme?
The "Programme" drop-down menu is located at the top
of the homepage. From there, you can view the
current season's events (from August to June
each year) by month and select individual events
under "Season". Under "Calendar
/ Extended search", you can also search for
specific artists or composers.
The programme for the current month can also be
downloaded as a PDF file under "Request
programme information" in the "Programme"
drop-down menu.
Where can I find an overview of the full
season?
You can download an overview of all events being
held at the Alte Oper, or request a copy by post,
under "Request programme information" in the
"Programme" drop-down menu. Please note, however,
that the range of concerts on offer at the Alte Oper
is much more extensive than those listed in the
season brochure. The season brochure does not
include concerts from other event organisers or late
additions to the programme, particularly in the
field of entertainment.
Where can I find room and seating plans?
Under "Room plans" in the "Programme" drop-down
menu. There you can find the various plans for the
"Mozart Saal" and the "Großer Saal", broken down by
price brackets for the relevant event.
How much do tickets cost?
Ticket prices for the various price categories are
listed at the bottom of the page when you select a
concert under "Programme", "Season", the current
season and the relevant month. These prices are
final prices and include the advance sales charge.
Tickets to concerts organised by the Alte Oper
itself (this information is also provided on the
concert page) also include the cost of travelling to
the concert on the RMV public transport network.
Are discounted tickets available on the
Internet, too?
The Alte Oper and its partners grant a number of
concessions to various groups. Proof of
identification must be shown at the advance ticket
sales outlet to buy such tickets. It is therefore
not possible to buy discounted tickets online.
For the various discounts offered to different
groups by different event organisers, please see the
General Terms and Conditions.
What should I do if I am late for a
concert?
If you arrive late, please inform a member of our
hospitality staff. We will do our very best to get
you into the concert at the earliest opportunity,
but please bear in mind that we are keen to minimise
any disruption to events that have already started.
This may mean that you cannot take your seat until
the interval.
Where are the cloak rooms and the toilets
located?
The cloak rooms are located in the entrance area on
the first level and in the foyer on the second
level.
A larger number of toilets can be found in the
entrance area (level 1) and in the foyer on level 2.
There is also one male and one female WC on level 5
(to the left and right of the Albert Mangelsdorff
Foyer) and on level 6 (to the left and right of the
bar in the conservatory).
What should I wear to concerts?
Those attending the Opera Ball usually wear evening
dresses and dinner jackets, whereas many people
simply wear jeans and trainers to jazz concerts. In
other words, the clothes you wear depend on the type
of event. For classical concerts, the rule of thumb
is to enjoy the concert in clothes you feel
comfortable wearing, but to feel free to dress up
for the occasion. After all, most people do not
attend concerts every day and should therefore feel
free to express this in their clothing if they wish.
There is no strict dress code as such. Be it a suit,
sports jacket or pullover, a dress, skirt or
trousers – the choice is entirely yours.
Are standing tickets available, too?
No standing tickets are available at the Alte Oper
for safety reasons.
When does the box office open?
Remaining tickets for an event can be purchased at
the Alte Oper box office starting one hour before
the concert begins.
How can I keep up to date with events at
the Alte Oper?
The Alte Oper's monthly programme keeps you informed
of upcoming events. These are available at all
advance sales ticket outlets or can be downloaded
from our website or sent to you by post. We are also
happy to send you our monthly newsletter, which
keeps you informed of current events and special
offers.
